Happy (Wet) Saturday!

What do you do on a chilly, rainy Saturday morning?

Extra cup or coffee? Good book? Maybe putter around on some neglected project? If you’re the FREEDOM TOUR team, you load trailers, gulp down a quick breakfast, pull on rain gear, and hit the road. These folks weren’t about to let a little cold rain prevent them from chasing the dream.

They were quite a sight, 9 of them splashing down the road together in their helmet covers and rain suits. Can’t imagine what passing motorists thought of our little parade of craziness. I wish everyone who wondered about our sanity could have understood the passion and dedication driving our little train.

In Buena Vista our friends from BV Hope prepared a wonderful brunch–breakfast burritos, mounds of fruit, and steaming hot coffee. After 24 soggy miles we welcomed the opportunity for great food served by amazing people–plus some dry clothes and warm hands.

After tons of food and even more coffee, it was tough to imagine stepping back out into the chilly rain. However, the blessings of Buena Vista continued. As we said our good-byes, the rain stopped and a nice day appeared.

Dry and refreshed, the riders set their sights on the long climb to Leadville. The rain stayed away, and we completed a long, difficult day.

You don’t ride 24 miles in cold rain for fun. You do it because you’re part of a story bigger than yourself, a story of hope and love. You do it so 20 kids you’ll never meet can live in freedom.

You do it to follow a God-sized dream you don’t fully comprehend.

Our new friends in Buena Vista went above and beyond. They’re true servants working to spread awareness in their community about human trafficking. We can’t thank them enough for being God’s blessing on a rainy day.

I’m excited to work with these amazing folks again. I think our 2018 MOUNTAIN TOUR might have a new home base.
