Forrest Gump’s mom might have been describing our bike tour.
You never know what you’ll get. Saturday was clouds and cold rain. Sunday provided crisp, bright blue skies and a perfect day to climb two mountain passes. Different churches each night, lunch at a roadside pull-off, wide shoulders and narrow, winding two-lanes. Something different around every corner.
Fremont Pass and the Climax Mine. Copper Mountain and (no kidding) a Mac-N-Cheese Festival. Vail Pass and absolutely stunning views. A 20-mile descent past Vail to Avon and our hosts at Eagle River Presbyterian Church. A small gathering for Sunday evening worship. Grilled burgers & brats on the church patio, including a birthday celebration.
Oh, and one lost rider found, safe and sound.
We plan the route and arrange the church stays, then take off and discover the blessings of each day. Fourteen people open to possibilities, building relationships, doing life together, growing closer to ourselves and to God with each pedal stroke. It’s a great way to spend four days…or a lifetime.
Today’s the tour’s longest ride, 90 miles from Avon to Steamboat Springs. No telling what we’ll encounter.
One certainty, though. We all know we’re accompanied by the God who keeps his promises. We know it’s a journey of hope.
