Every dollar you contribute, every dollar we raise, goes to the kids at the HOME OF HOPE.
We say that, but how does it work? How do we buy jerseys, pay for gas, and feed the team? The answer, quite simply, is generosity.
At the very beginning of the process a couple of amazing community sponsors write checks that pay our expenses. Jerseys, t-shirts, energy bars, all of it is covered before we begin. But that’s just the start.
Every night on this journey a different church opens its doors to a team of strangers. They allow us to use their facility, often offering laundry and showers as well. Many churches provide an amazing meal, and some invite folks to hear our story.
We’ve been repeat visitors at several of these places and have become friends with the staff and pastors. It’s impossible to put a dollar value on that kind of generosity, but it’s what we encounter over and over on this journey.
People joke about the craziness of what we’re doing, but they recognize the value of shared sacrifice for a cause. They see riders climbing difficult hills and cranking long, hot days and recognize that something special is going on. It’s a cool story and they want to write a chapter.
We love bringing folks into the circle, from observers to supporters to lifelong friends. We come back to these places and it starts to feel like going home. Well, if “home” meant sleeping on floors, getting up too early, loading everything into trailers, and moving to another home the next night.
I hope you’re following along, checking our Facebook page and our photo site. I hope you get a sense of the fun, the hard work, and the amazing generosity that pushes us down the road. I hope you understand the love that drives us…love for God, for each other, and for a group of kids we’ll never meet who once lived in slavery.
Now, they’re free. Every dollar we raise helps keep them free.
