A lot can happen in eight weeks.
In eight weeks a team of cyclists will gather at the golden dome of the Wyoming state capitol. We’ll raise our helmets, climb on our bikes, and crank south out of Cheyenne on highway 85. A casual observer might think FRONT RANGE FREEDOM TOUR ’17 begins with the first pedal crank.
The observer will see brightly-colored jerseys, smiles, and high-fives. He’ll wave and perhaps offer a thumbs-up, but he likely won’t understand the mission behind the excitement, the individual sacrifices and fears of each person, or the size and nature of the team. He won’t understand the work and service that went into creating the celebration.
Like any team, there’s a lot more happening than that observer would see.
Cyclists ride bikes. During the next eight weeks they’ll train, sometimes in groups but often alone. They’ll gradually increase mileage, change diets, and prepare physically for a demanding task.
In addition, they’ll share the story of the kids at Project Rescue’s HOME OF HOPE. They’ll speak with gratitude as they offer the opportunity to join this circle as sponsors.
Support and gear (SAG) drivers do the hard work. They keep us fed and hydrated. They haul our stuff and cook our meals, and they do it all with smiles and encouragement.
During the next eight weeks they’ll plan, shop, arrange, and organize a zillion details that make this crazy thing work, mostly behind-the-scenes and without the credit they deserve.
Host churches open their doors and share their facilities with sweaty strangers. I’ll post more details later about these amazing partners.
During the next eight weeks many of these generous partners will invite us to visit their services, share the story, and invite people to join our circle.
Community business sponsors join us to help expand the circle. We’re grateful for their remarkable financial generosity, and their partnership expands visibility and creates opportunities to open doors in a broader community.
Individual donors are at the heart of our mission. We hope to share the story of the kids at the HOME OF HOPE as widely as possible. The donation part is a side benefit–the main point is to call people to do something about the horrible crime of human trafficking.
