Training happens slowly.
You can’t rush the process of preparing for a marathon, a long-distance bike ride, performing surgery, playing a symphony. Training requires time and sacrifice. You can’t “cram.”
We all knew friends (not us, of course!) who waited until the day before the test to study. The all-nighter, ten cups of coffee, and perhaps some emergency prayers might get you through an exam. They’re not long-term learning strategies.
The weather in Colorado isn’t ideal for cycle training right now. I don’t really enjoy riding indoors, spinning on the silly stationary trainer. Tempting to huddle by the fire, sip coffee, and wait for nice warm weather before I begin training.
But…training is long-term. I can’t cram it into a few weeks just because it might be more convenient. Or fun.
Don’t sacrifice long-term on the altar of right-now.
What’s the thing YOU want to accomplish, that you need to train for?
Learn photography. Build a cool website. Read the bible with more understanding.
You don’t get there overnight. Or by watching TV. You get there slowly, long-term, with ups and downs. One step at a time, beginning with step #1.
