On the final day of the FREEDOM TOUR our team shared a different sort of meal.
In a place called THE REFUGE, in a courtyard with gates titled Wait and Be Still, we gathered in peaceful stillness around the Lord’s Table. A circle of people bonded by shared sacrifice stopped to express gratitude and humility.
Simplicity. A boom box played some songs, then a couple of people found favorite music on their phones. Expressions of thanks, for days together, for difficult moments, for unexpected encounters, and for safety and freedom in the lives of 22 kids.
Jesus said, “Do this to remember me.”
Nothing magic about the bread and wine. At this table, in this circle, we drop the pretense. We know we can’t do it alone. We know differences in age, gender, color, ability, nationality, none of it matters. At this table, in this circle, we acknowledge our failure, accept forgiveness, and commit to move forward, knowing we’ll fall short and return.
At this table, in this circle of friends, as a final act of worship, we share this meal and remember.
