It’s difficult to describe what happens during the first two days of the FREEDOM TOUR.
We bring 13 cyclists and 5 support folks together on Friday night, and two days later we’re 114 miles or so down the road. There’s not much time to figure out how it works–we meet each other one night, the next day we’re feeding people on the fly, loading and unloading, establishing routines, keeping the mission in mind, cycling as a cohesive team–it’s an exercise in grace, patience, and servant leadership.
Of course there’s a lot of advance planning, but I’ve learned that a certain amount of it can’t happen until we meet. We’re a community, and you can’t figure out what a community looks like in advance.
It takes a bit of trust. When the first rough edges appear it’s tempting to jump in and manage, but we believe nobody’s on the team by accident. God brought us together and we want to allow the team to come together the way He intended.
I’m so impressed by every one of these folks who have made the commitment to this adventure. It’s hot and difficult and wonderful and every single one of them adds something special to the experience.
Monday’s word-of-the-day was GLORIOUS. We rode through glorious country for a glorious cause for a glorious God.
What could be better than that?
We enjoyed seeing the update – thanks for taking time to post. Praying that you will have the wind to your back and a bit cooler temps tomorrow than they are forecasting. Be well – travel safe!
