I thought I knew a lot about school.
I taught in schools for thirty-five years. With all that practice, in some pretty divergent environments, I figured I knew about schools and kids.
About three years ago I learned about a Christian school called Life Center Academy in New Delhi, India. Math, science, bible classes. It’s a school, right?
Then I learned that twenty-two of this academy’s students are children of women enslaved in the sex trade; they were literally born in a brothel. They live in a HOME OF HOPE with missionaries who rescued them from the horrors of the life in which they were trapped.
The HOME OF HOPE depends on donations to support the kids. It costs about $40 per month to send one child to school (tuition, books, uniforms, supplies). For these children, this home and this education are the barriers between them and being sold into sexual slavery. They have the opportunity to grow up in the freedom of knowing Jesus and becoming all God intended them to be.
I thought I knew about school. Turns out I had a lot to learn.
