If yesterday’s ride had a signature sound, it would be pssst.
That’s the air escaping from a punctured tube. Our team got a lot of practice changing tires on the road during our 68-mile Sunday ride from Fort Collins to Brighton.
Not sure why. Sometimes that’s just the way it goes, but the delays couldn’t alter what turned out to be a great day.
We began with a wonderful sendoff at Timberline Church. Nothing like a few quiet moments to set the tone at the beginning of a long journey.
Friends, family, and supporters joined us for HELMETS UP to begin the ride in prayer.
Our cycling team this year includes strong, experienced cyclists. There wasn’t much of the normal adjustment process as these folks took to the road–well, there was that one minor crash about a block after we started when two riders touched wheels, but no one got hurt and the bikes were fine.
I have to admit that I still get a little teary-eyed when I see our line of cyclists stretched out along a quiet country road on a cool morning. I can’t avoid thinking of all the sacrifice and hard work that goes into creating the picture, all the planning and dreaming and pointing to this day…and now, here we are, gears clicking, tires whirring, a long green-and-blue line of riders gliding through the countryside.
And for all of that, what makes it so amazing is that we all believe this whole thing is about something bigger than any of us…bigger than our ride, bigger even than the HOME OF HOPE. We all believe this is about eternity, that God will use what we’re doing in some way we don’t totally understand to accomplish something incredible.
Last evening our team talked about the statement HOPE changes what’s possible. We shared what that meant to us, this notion that faith in God’s promises (hope) really matters.
We’re in agreement…faith in God’s promises changes what’s possible.
You?
BTW, I hope we don’t have any more flat tires, but that’s something else altogether.
