Start

HAPPY MONDAY!

Welcome to a new year and a totally predictable word-of-the-week…

START

MondayA New Year is a perfect time to start.

Except, it’s really not. A New Year is really a good excuse to avoid starting. There’s no good time to start.

We’re never quite ready. We’re always afraid of something.

The audience isn’t prepared for our message.

We could make it better if we waited and tweaked this or that a little more.

Our team needs more practice.

Next week (or month) might be better. Maybe the New Year?

Or we could start, because the thing needs to be done and we’ll never be ready and starting is the hard part.

When Jesus said, “Follow Me,” I don’t think He meant get ready to follow me or follow me once you’re not afraid or make a New Year’s resolution to follow me.

His disciples dropped everything, followed, and figured it out as they went.

I think it’s okay if we didn’t start January 1. Today is fine, or some random Thursday in April.

What matters is that you find what needs doing. And start doing it.
