FRONT RANGE FREEDOM TOUR ’14 is heading down the road.
As we ride, I’m sharing our team devotionals with you. I hope you’re enjoying the ride.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. And of course I hope you’ll follow the ride by jumping over to the RICH’S RIDE blog.

(Becky) I remember driving around the farm with Dad, heading off to perform some specific chore. We’d finish whatever we set out to do, and when we arrived home he’d remark that a particular fence needed repair, a neighbor’s tractor seemed out of place, or he needed to check back on the cows in the field by the birthing barn.
If you were with him, you didn’t realize he was looking for these things. He didn’t carry a checklist of stuff to watch—fence, cows, crops, neighbors, buildings, wildlife, equipment. He simply learned from a lifetime on the farm to pay attention to his surroundings.
When I tried to help out by looking for an open gate or some other specific problem, I rarely found it. We’d get home and Dad would ask if I saw all the downed trees by the highway or the extra water in the pond. I didn’t, because I was looking for open gates.
How might a checklist of items to observe cause you to miss something important?
How would this translate to a bike tour?
What are some of your preconceived notions about what you should pay attention to as you ride?
What’s a remarkable event you failed to notice at the time?
Can you share a time when you noticed something important but didn’t respond?
Why do you think this happens?
What are some of the consequences of failing to notice?
What have you noticed so far on the tour that you didn’t expect?
