What To Do With A Gift

monte runningSome of the best things to learn are things you already knew.

Last week I finally got my bike off the trainer, out of the garage, and on the road. I’ve cranked more than 30,000 miles since I started handcycling, and I still love revisiting the feeling of joy on that initial ride after a long winter. As Monte trots beside me, I can think of only one word to describe my state of mind.

I’m grateful.

Biking is such an amazing opportunity for me. Beyond the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits, handcycling has provided a platform from which I can share a story of hope. It’s offered a chance to serve in a unique way.

God doesn’t give us stuff so we can feel cool about having it. The only reason for receiving something is to share it.

I don’t want to take this special gift for granted. It’s fun and I love it, but I also believe it comes with a responsibility to take advantage of what I’ve been given.

I won’t be able to do this forever.

I want to know that while I could do it, I did it as well as I could.
