Make An Excuse Or Write A Story

storp smiling dogEveryone learns differently; I learn best by teaching.

I’m enjoying my workshop with the guys at Harvest Farm. They’ve taught me a lot.

As we’ve talked and as Becky and I process what’s happening, a simple truth emerged.

We all have experiences. Often those experiences, at their core, aren’t much different. But we each face a choice.

Your experiences are either an excuse to surrender or an opportunity to tell a remarkable story.

I’ve been down both roads. For several years after my injury I twisted every event into another excuse to quit on life. Left on my own, I’d likely still be caught in that trap.

Some good friends and God’s grace helped me see those same experiences in a different light. I discovered hope and the story of Relentless Grace.

I learned to handcycle and followed the improbable dream that became RICH’S RIDE.

Same experiences—better story.

Here’s what’s cool—you don’t need a catastrophic injury or a book or a crazy cross-country bike ride to write a remarkable story with the events of your life. You can do it by raising great kids or building a solid marriage. You can work each day on your career until it’s the story of a life of dedication and commitment. You can serve, quietly and faithfully, leaving a story of trust and love.

You can spend a few minutes every day getting to know Jesus, then reflect Him into the people you encounter.

A remarkable story provides space for community. You get to offer others the chance to come along and write their own stories.

It’s not about ordinary or extraordinary circumstances.

It’s all about the story you decide to tell.
