Ever Seen An Interrobang?

interrobangRICH’S RIDE allows us to connect with some amazing people.

Becky and I were privileged to hear Bob Goff speak last Thursday, then spent a couple of hours with him and about twenty people at breakfast the next morning. Bob talked about an obscure punctuation mark called the INTERROBANG, a combination question mark & exclamation point.

I love the idea of a simple way to indicate I’m absolutely sure but I have questions. One single mark says I’m certain and I Don’t Know How That Works.

From now on, maybe I’ll call them “interrobang issues.”

My big regret is the interrobang isn’t available in all font sets so it’s not “web safe.” But perhaps that’s a good thing.

Frankly, I’m ready to spend less time and effort on the questions. It’s fine to acknowledge them, but sometimes I wonder if questions don’t become a smokescreen, a way to avoid getting on with the work.

I know Jesus told us to love others unconditionally, even when it’s hard, perhaps especially when it’s hard. I don’t need an interrobang for that one—it gets an exclamation mark. So maybe I ought to just do that.

It’s really sort of simple. Will I actually do the truth I know, or spend my time thinking and talking about the subtleties of the interrobang issues?

As Bob Goff told us, “Jesus didn’t ask us to agree with Him or study Him or understand Him. He asks us to follow Him, even when we don’t know where we’re going.”

Follow—I guess that means I have to move and actually do something.

I’m cranking a bike and sharing a story of hope. You?
