I’m glad it’s The Book of Acts and not The Book of Opinions.
Another bit of wisdom from Bob Goff, which I guess makes sense from a guy who titled his book Love Does.
Ever notice that the disciples didn’t get missionary training or a theology degree before they took off to make disciples? Now that I think about it, they probably didn’t even understand much of what we think of as basic Christian theology.
They likely couldn’t have explained the Trinity or Sanctification. They certainly couldn’t have recited The Apostles Creed, since it wasn’t written for a few centuries.
Seems like they should have taken a couple of years to get their doctrine figured out and make sure everyone taught the right message. Without proper supervision and curriculum, who knows what crazy stuff might get said?
But they didn’t stop to write a book or build a Bible school. They went out and did what Jesus told them to do.
They didn’t talk about acting and they didn’t tell others to act. They did stuff.
To His friends, Jesus wasn’t a collection of ideas to be codified, discussed, and debated. Even later when they wrote the gospels, they wrote stories about what He did. The academic theology stuff mostly came later.
I’m not saying correct theology doesn’t matter.
It’s just become clear to me that what we do with what we know about Jesus matters more.
This challenges me because even when I‘m doing RICH’S RIDE I find ways to hide behind computers and words. It’s really easy to do a little and spend a lot of time telling you about it.
Writing and speaking can be doing. They can also be good ways to hide from doing. I don’t want to settle for that.
I want my story to be a book of Acts. You?
