Freedom

Happy Monday!

We’re back after a couple of weeks’ R&R and thinking about today’s word-of-the-week…

FREEDOM

MondayI’ve never experienced life without freedom.

Last week we celebrated Independence Day in the US. Two weeks ago our team rode more than 400 miles as part of Front Range FREEDOM Tour to raise funds and awareness to fight human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

I’ve tried, but I really can’t understand what it would be like to have my liberty and rights arbitrarily removed. Frankly, I hope I never have that experience. But as I’ve learned about the horrible injustice and abuse associated with modern human trafficking, I believe my personal freedom is impacted by the circumstances of those who live in bondage.

As I’ve said before, once you know the facts surrounding this issue you can’t un-know. You can turn your back if you wish, but you can’t pretend you don’t know.

I cannot claim to be free while twenty-seven million people live in slavery.

When I know this stuff, as a follower of Jesus I have an obligation to respond.

It’s not about guilt or not-celebrating our country and our liberty.

It’s about understanding what it means that we’re blessed to be a blessing.

Have a great week.
