What’s The Mission?

I’m looking at routes across South Florida from Miami to Naples. All options seem to lead through the Everglades.

Does anyone know how fast an aligator can run?

Today I’d like to look at a different sort of issue surrounding routes and destinations.

Whenever I talk to someone about getting involved with RICH’S RIDE the discussion inevitably turns to purpose. Why are we doing this? Precisely what are we trying to accomplish?

People generally get that it’s a crazy, inspirational endeavor. But when you’re asking someone to support you with time or treasure it’s useful to be clear about the mission.

That’s pretty much a general truth. In just about any part of life, it’s difficult to determine the correct path to an uncertain destination. If you don’t know where you’re trying to go, you’ll probably get there.

Jesus was a great model of staying focused on a mission. The gospels are filled with incidents in which people tried to derail Him. Pharisees, Romans, even His family and closest friends—they all had their own ideas about what He should do.

Actually, that’s still true. Believers and non-believers have all sorts of agendas for Him. But Jesus was—and is—clear about His mission. He knew why He was here, and He pursued His purpose with clear, single-minded focus.

Perhaps those of us who wish to follow Him would do well to get a clear notion of His mission. Maybe we could follow a little better if we understood the destination. Mission matters.

So when we decided to continue RICH’S RIDE beyond the Mississippi River trip, Becky and I figured it was important to clearly define our mission. And since I need your help, I figured it might be useful to talk a bit about it.

RICH’S RIDE Mission

Demonstrate that it’s possible to overcome adversity and accomplish big dreams.

Speak to a variety of audiences about hope, possibility, and God’s faithfulness.

Raise funds and awareness for worthy humanitarian causes.

I plan to discuss each piece in future posts. I hope we can learn together about the importance of mission. And I hope you’ll get excited about getting involved as we travel this journey of hope.

Are there any areas where the lack of a clear mission causes confusion for you?
