Strange Noises

Hi. It’s Monte, resuming my role as guest blogger. It’s been a while since we chatted, so maybe I should  introduce myself since some of you might be new here.

I’m Rich’s service dog, the one everyone always pets while they read the sign on my vest that says “Please don’t pet me.” I don’t mind. I’m always up for a little friendly scratching.

I should probably also remind you of my little secret, just between you and me. Rich and Becky think I don’t know what they’re saying most of the time. They’re wrong. I know exactly what they’re saying—most of it just doesn’t make much sense.

We’re back in the car again. I don’t mind—I sleep just as well in the car as anywhere else. And I’m with Rich and Becky, and as long as they’re around I’m happy.

Well, there is this one thing that’s bothering me. I keep hearing weird noises that make me really anxious. The noises seem connected to the trailer behind the car, and Rich says they’re normal. But the extra rattling and creaking makes me think something’s wrong.

Usually I trust Rich, but strange noises really bother me and it’s hard to relax. Rich and Becky talk a lot about trust, and sometimes it seems like it’s hard for them, too. I think it’s harder to trust in some situations.

For example, I don’t fret much about food. I’m sure I’ll always get fed when it’s dinnertime, because there’s never been a time when it didn’t happen. When there’s always food in my special container and everything’s just like it’s always been, that’s a pretty easy kind of trust.

Trust is a lot harder when you’re scared or unsure or when you encounter something unfamiliar like the noises from the stupid trailer. That’s when it’s really hard to let go, even when you want to believe the one telling you it’ll be okay. When you need to trust the most, that’s when it’s the hardest.

I want to trust that these noises won’t hurt me. It would make life a lot easier. I’d be able to just relax and rest.

But trust is hard. Especially when you need it.

I would be scared too. Have you had someone check it out??? Maybe it needs some oil.

Havea great trip and be and let us know “how the noise” is going Monty.

Mary–Monte says he’s more relaxed right now. The trailer’s becoming more familiar, so maybe he’s getting used to it. Becky’s dad checked it out, and it’s fine. Monte trusts his experience, I think!
