Happy Monday!
I hope I can explain the meaning behind today’s word-of-the-week…
EYE
This weekend we spent a lot of time talking at our large church about RICH’S RIDE. It felt a bit like sitting in the eye of a storm.
Becky, Monte, and I spoke briefly to four big groups of people. Excitement swirled all around. People wanted details and ways to engage. There were lists and connections and all sorts of wonderful things occurring as folks got into the spirit of the project. I couldn’t have asked for a much better response.
And yet … I felt strangely detached from the buzz of activity.
I should have been nervous with anticipation. Explaining my crazy dream, and the heart behind it, to so many people should have been scary. I expected a lot of anxious, excited energy and anticipation. But instead I experienced calmness and peace that seemed almost out of place.
It’s calm in the eye of the storm.
A lot of us are living in storms as the new week begins. I’m wondering, without really having an answer, if the eye of the storm is a place we can actively seek. Rather than struggling to escape, what if we intentionally moved toward the center, immersed ourselves in what’s happening, faced the fear?
Is that what it means to be fully present and in-the-moment?
My experience this weekend tells me the eye of the storm is a good place. Do you think I can replicate that kind of feeling?
If you’re in a storm, what would it look like to move toward its eye and seek the calm at the center?
Have a great week.
