Following In The Valley

Did Jesus ever feel disappointed and discouraged?

I’m pretty sure He did.

Did He ever wonder if He was on the wrong path?

Not so sure—I don’t think so.

One great solace as a follower of Jesus, at least for me, is the knowledge that He was fully human. I know I can share what I’m feeling and know He understands. I’m leaning on that knowledge this morning.

Yesterday’s appointment was routine. The doc was going to tell me everything was progressing as expected, and I could resume training next week.

He wasn’t supposed to tell me the stitches didn’t hold, the wound wasn’t healing, that I’d need another small surgery and another 2-3 weeks of recovery time.

He wasn’t supposed to leave me wondering if this bike ride project just isn’t meant to be, if I’m on the wrong path.

Medically, this is a minor blip. I’m fine, the wound is just in a bad spot and needs some TLC to complete the healing process. In the grand scheme, it’s not a big deal.

But when you have a dream and you’re sure it’s the right thing, it’s hard to see the dream derailed by such an insignificant detail. It’s hard not to get discouraged and disappointed.

WDJD (what did Jesus do?)

I’ve learned something. When Jesus got tired or needed guidance, He talked to His Dad—and listened.

That’s what I’m trying to do today.

As far as I know, Romans 8:28 is still part of the Bible. God causes everything to work together for good—even when we can’t see it.

You can do something really tangible and simple to help me out today.

This video’s part of a contest sponsored by TOP END, my hand cycle sponsor.

Grand Prize in the contest is $6,000 to our charity of choice, Blood Water Mission. That means that, if we win, 6,000 people would have access to clean water for an entire year!

Getting to the finals depends on total views of the video. So if you think it’s worthy, let’s use our network to spread the word.

Here’s how:

  • Watch the video yourself.
  • Share the link and encourage others to pass it along to their friends. Let’s use Facebook, Twitter, and email to make this a global cause.

You can either share the link to this page or the direct link to the video on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwYuQtWi9Wc).

I don’t know how God will use this situation.

He WILL use it for good.
