Anticipation

Happy Monday!

Yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent, which inspires this week’s word-of-the-week …

Anticipation

This is a season of anticipation, but I’ve noticed a change as I gain experience (a polite way of saying I’m getting older).

As a kid, it was a kind of “can’t wait” anticipation. Gifts and surprises—waiting for the magical day seemed impossible. Time passed so slowly, and it seemed Christmas might never arrive.

These days the anticipation is more about expectation, or perhaps remembering. Instead of the wonder of an unexpected surprise, it’s about the miracle of a gift already given.

A promise kept. A helpless baby. Emmanuel—God with us.

Anticipating an event that happened two thousand years ago—that’s what I’m doing this week.

I hope you’ll join me.

Have a great week!
