WHAT’S NEXT?

rgLast week I previewed one of the milestones on this journey.

le Tour de Pooch was a lot of fun. We managed to complete the day with no injuries, and thanks to the generosity of the riders we’ve now raised more than $5,000 in support of Canine Partners of the Rockies and their efforts to train and place service dogs.

I managed to complete the ride in about 2:55, barely meeting my three-hour goal. That’s twenty-five minutes better than last year, so I’m making progress. Now it’s time to ask, “What’s next?”

To complete The Crazy Quest, I can’t stop with this accomplishment. It’s good to Celebrate and even Coast a bit, but progress demands that you Don’t Stop once you’ve reached one milestone.

The next goal is fifty miles in five hours, which I hope to achieve in a month or so. Frankly, the thought of just staying on the bike that long is a bit intimidating. But the only way to find out how far you can go is to risk going too far.

Nobody wants to fail, but failure is really the only way to get better. If I only read about ideas I understand, I’ll never learn. If I only lift easy weights, I’ll never get stronger. You have to reach beyond your grasp if you wish to discover how far you can really go.

This milestone tells me I’m on the right path. It’s no guarantee that I’ll succeed or that I won’t need to make changes in the future. It’s one step on a long journey.

Now it’s time to take the next step.
