Pope Francis’ visit to America inspired today’s word-of-the-week…
TALK
I’m challenged by Pope Francis’ efforts to walk his talk.
He could easily withdraw into a protected bubble and issue pronouncements about humility, service, and accepting risk. Instead, he does all he can to integrate those values into his life, much to the consternation of those in his entourage.
He skips a fancy luncheon with Congress to dine with homeless folks, while our congressional “leaders” remain behind.
Where other self-important celebrity officials whisk through crowds cloistered by security and armored limos, Pope Francis strains to touch people and rides in a small Fiat or an open “Pope-mobile.”
Francis speaks truth to power, based on his understanding of his call to follow Jesus. He underlines his words with a lifetime of obedience and faithfulness to timeless principles.
Whether you’re Catholic or you agree with specifics is irrelevant.
It’s Monday. For me, and maybe for you, a good week to re-commit to walking our talk.
