From Duke University men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K) :
I’ve been a Coach K fan for a long time. My admiration has little to do with basketball success. I was elated when my cousin’s son, Tyus Jones, chose to play for Coach K. We celebrated Monday night as Duke claimed the NCAA National Championship.
(Disclosure: I’ve never met Tyus in person, but I’ve followed him from afar.)

Coach K was a featured speaker at a gathering of business leaders. During the Q&A session someone asked, “How important is character when it comes to winning basketball games?”
The response, for me, is a life lesson that goes far beyond sports.
“Character has very little to do with winning basketball games. Character has EVERYTHING to do with winning championships.”
Forget basketball.
Long-term. Do it right. Build relationships and community. Take responsibility. Make it about others.
That’s how we follow Jesus and change the world.
