I’ve missed you.
The last few days have been a whirlwind—all good stuff, but long days and not enough time. Only twenty-four hours to work with, and when you’re cranking a bike for seven or eight of them it’s important to spend a few more sleeping.
I hope you’re following the Rich’s Ride blog. We’re four days and 146 miles into our 1000-mile tour of Florida, and we’d love to have you along.
One cool aspect of cycling is time to think about the interesting stuff I see along the road. Yesterday as a trash truck passed I saw a pretty cool tagline.
Working to leave the world a little cleaner than we found it.
If you think about it, that not a bad mission. I started wondering if we could all adopt a modified version:
I’m working to leave the world a little ________ than I found it.
How would you fill in the blank?
I spent a few miles thinking of possibilities:
- Safer
- Less violent
- Less thirsty
- Less lonely
- More just
The list is endless.
I like this notion. It fits my belief that we’re not capable of fixing the world (that’s God’s job) but we can change it by doing what we can, where we are, with what we have.
I could re-state the three parts of the Rich’s Ride mission using this idea.
I’m working to leave the world a little more hopeful than I found it.
I’m working to leave the world a little more able to deal with adversity than I found it.
I’m working to leave the world a little less hungry than I found it.
If I can accomplish that each day of the ride, I think my head can hit the pillow knowing I’ve done the work God place in my path that day.
How do you fill in the blank?
