“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” Mark 9:50
Some not-so-random reflections:
This weekend I think I missed most of the point of a sermon. The teaching dealt with the last verses of Mark 9 and a bunch of stuff about sin and accountability. But, as so often happens, one simple admonition captured my attention. I don’t think I heard much else.
“Be at peace with one another.”
I’m not very good at that.
Yesterday morning Seth Godin, in his marketing/business blog, offered this nugget:
Instead of outthinking the competition…it’s worth trying to outlove them.
It got me thinking: What would it look like if my primary goal was to outlove my competition? What if I gave up trying to be right, or win, or be first? What if I put all that effort into outloving everyone I encounter?
Last week Don Miller said he used to pray for the right words before he began writing. Lately he said he prays for a loving heart, and finds that the words come easier.
I don’t like to speak for Jesus, but I’m pretty sure He never thinks, “In that situation you loved too much.”
