Happy Monday!

I’m a little fired up about today’s word-of-the-week…

ENABLED

This is Oz Sanchez.
He’s a former Reconnaissance Marine who served multiple deployments. He volunteered to become a Navy SEAL before a hit-and-run driver ended his military career.

Oz is a multiple world champion and multiple Paralympic gold medalist. He set the course record for the Hawaii Ironman triathlon. In last week’s London road race he cranked his handcycle forty miles in two hours. His motto: Know No Limits!

On online commentator said he’s an amazing disabled athlete.

Oz is one of the most able people I know. Why isn’t he an amazing athlete…period?

Despite a terrible accident, he chose to focus on what he can do rather than what he can’t. By showing courage in confronting and overcoming adversity, he encourages others to do likewise. But choosing to focus on his ability, he enables others to do the same.

Oz’s dedication and courage inspire countless athletes—like me—to push past perceived limits. His ability enables me to explore my own potential.

Why do we insist on labeling others—and ourselves—based on perceived faults? We know God sees each of us as precious individuals with unique gifts.

Incidentally: Last Saturday, while Oz, Matt Updike, and Muffy Davis were winning a gold medal, NBC Sports Network televised the Notre Dame spring football game. So much for supporting injured veterans.

Have a great week.
