As I write this, Hurricane Isaac batters the gulf coast.
Storms in the south aren’t new. I’ve heard of them all my life, but there’s something different about this one.
Less than ten months ago we were riding beside those levees, talking to some of the people whose lives and livlihoods are seperated from the Mississippi River by an impossibly fragile infrastructure. Somehow that experience makes the television pictures a bit more personal.
These storms, of course, impact more than just the coastal areas. As Isaac moves inland there’ll be incredible amounts of rain, high winds, and the potential for damaging spin-off tornados in many of the communities we visited.
To our friends in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Jackson, Rolling Fork, Greenville, and all the communities that’ll be impacted by this storm–you’re in our prayers. Stay safe.
