Happy Monday!
Over the weekend I was reminded of the true meaning of today’s word-of-the-week…
CHURCH
Saturday evening Becky came home happy and exhausted. She spent the day at Sharing Hope, a community outreach partnership between local churches and Convoy of Hope.
In a big vacant lot in north Fort Collins, 1300 volunteers from three dozen congregations served nearly four thousand guests. Convoy of Hope provided 5000 bags of groceries and some general guidelines and organizational support. Local folks provided haircuts, family portraits, medical and dental care, entertainment, and a ton of smiles. They connected people with community resources, offered prayer, handed out children’s books, and played with kids.
Nobody stood at the entrance and checked tax returns to verify eligibility. Everyone who showed up and requested help was welcomed as an honored guest.
As Becky told stories from the day, one remark stood out.
“One volunteer shared this observation. ‘We’re all here together. It’s not like we’re from a bunch of different churches. We’re one church, serving the community. This is how God meant it to be.’”
Exactly.
Have a great week.
