If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve heard me talk about Convoy of Hope.
As I cranked along the Mississippi River last year I talked a lot about this amazing organization and their work to feed hungry children and provide disaster relief. It’s an honor to be associated with such a dedicated team of folks and their passion to feed the world.
However, it’s one thing to talk about this ministry. As we told their story, visited their headquarters, and met and spoke to the staff, we didn’t imagine that our community would experience first-hand this incredible symbol of hope.
This picture shows a Convoy of Hope trailer unloading food and supplies in our church parking lot less than a mile from our home. These provision will supplement local efforts to support hundreds of people displaced by the High Park Wildfire.
You’ll also notice another trailer from Samaritan’s Purse. That organization sent a team of folks who are specially trained to help with the process of safely and thoroughly sifting through damaged homes. That team is bunking in our church, training volunteers, and beginning the difficult task of salvaging the remains of more than 250 homes.
It’s interesting that two semi-trailers serve as symbols of hope and service. The trailers, of course, only support the people who strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus, reaching out to those in need of food, shelter, and hope.
Each morning before my workout, Monte and I take a 2-3 mile trip through the neighborhood. It’s reassuring to begin the day by rolling past these everyday symbols of the amazing work being done in Jesus’ name.
Perhaps it’s strange, but I look at them and I see Jesus.
