I ran across two old stories this week that seem related.
One story was really more of a quote attributed to Billy Graham, who remarked that all references to the Bible could be eliminated from most churches without affecting 95% of their activities.
He also observed that the remaining 5% has the power to change the world.
Story #2 came from a pastor who conducted an experiment. On one particular Sunday morning he removed the cross from the front of the sanctuary. Not one person commented.
The next Sunday he returned the cross to its customary location and removed the American flag. Several people noticed immediately and objected loudly.
