Have You Tried Farming?

scatter seedsI’ve decided this tour might actually be a farming expedition.

I know—bike riding to farming might be something of a mixed metaphor. I’m pondering Jesus’ words.

Jesus said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.” (Mark 4:26-28)

As always, Wisconsin Hope Tour 2014 has allowed us to share great conversations with amazing people. Those people, those interactions, are the reason we’re here. But I’m always aware that we never really know the long-term impact.

We scatter seeds. We tell a story of hope and leave books that’ll find their way into hands we never see. God waters and nourishes, and the seed sprouts even though we don’t know where, when, or how. I’m certain only that God doesn’t waste our efforts.

This tour also has a new aspect we haven’t encountered. Nearly everywhere we go, people keep asking us to come back.

Let’s set a date and get you back next _____ to speak to _____.

We know people who’d love to hear your story. We’d love to organize an event if you come back next  _____.

I don’t know whether any of those seeds will reach maturity. As Jesus said, our role is to be faithful seed-scatterers.

Whether we’re riding bikes or farming, we do what we can, where we are, with what we have—and trust God for the results. It’s not about us, anyway.

We’ll scatter the seeds, and trust Him for what grows.

Our time in Door County was beautiful and much too short. Today we’ll speak at Freedom House Ministries in Green Bay. Then it’s on to Cottage Grove for an evening huddle with an FCA group.

Only one more week, mostly in the Madison area—lots to accomplish in a short time.

It’s gonna be a blast!
